After being unable to find any locally available parts to do a 520 conversion (didnt wanna wait a couple of weeks for overseas orders and the AU$ having tanked recently) to my Superfour I decided to start cross referencing parts to see what parts from honda and other brands would fit. After a few hours of frustratingly searching ebay parts and honda catalogues I came up with this.

Front Sprocket:
CBR500R/CB500R 2013 onwards 15/16t (from the shop I found with sizing to compare)
Is only .5 of a millimeter less in width than the stock superfour sprocket (gonna shim that out) and is 520 and available over the counter at Honda.

Rear sprocket:
Suzuki GS500 04-2010 38/39/46t (probably others as well)
Fits perfectly on the 400SF carrier (pinched the one off my dads bike to test fit) and is 520. Again available over the counter from Suzuki. Was looking for a stock honda part but knew the GS was a fit so went with it.

And of course a quality 520 chain to go with it as well. I will let you all know hot it goes fitting and getting everything to line up with both the stock wheel and after I have fitted something just a bit bigger.

OK, so after a few weeks wondering where my parts were turns out the motorcycle shop in the complex I work t had them the whole time (I got everything of Ebay delivered to my work) and never bothered to check if it was meant to go to them or not. that was a fun trip over there.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

Additional parts you will require are a 80mm Id 87mm OD and 3-5mm tall spacer to centre the Gs500 Sprocket, which you can glue into place using a high strength adhesive if you plan on staying with this conversion. My particular bike has a 5.5 rim conversion on the back using a different hub (VF500) that has been machined and as a result mine does not need the spacer ring. Also I am aware that the rim is messy, It gets washed every Saturday so it can wait.



That's it. Everything just bolts in place as per a standard chain replacement. Just one thing needs mentioning.

The front sprocket can be put on backwards but what you need to do is match the offset of the new sprocket so that the same width is maintained between the sprocket mount flange and the part where the teeth is on the MOTOR side. You will see that one side is taller than the other, on my particular sprocket it has a 15 machined into it on the tall side of the sprocket.



Adjust the chain and clean off the excess grease from the chain (I use WD40 hence the mesy rim) and enjoy the new gearing on the highway.

Also comparing to a 15-45 setup the 15-39 you will drop approx 1000 rpm at 100k/hr / 60mphin top gear. If you want to keep near factory ratios then grab a 46t rear sprocket instead.
