HELP - CHAIN TENSIONER / ADJUSTER NOT MOVING

Hi all,
After buying a new chain and sprockets to fit to my VFR 400 NC30 1989 bike,
I found that I could not move the chain tensioner/ adjuster. I know there must be
dirt/old grease/ stones in it that's jamming it up so I cant move it. I was just wondering if someone could explain to me
how I would go about taking the chain adjuster apart so that I could clean it?
Do i need to take apart the rear hub to do it?
(I have removed the old chain and sprockets from the bike already)
Thanks,
Andrew.

Hi all,
If I remove the Sprocket assembly (I have already removed the rear sprocket) by
un-doing the rear 46mm hub nut, can i clean the chain adjuster this way?
I wouldnt need to remove the rear wheel this way ether right?
Or do i need to brace up that back end and remove the hub?
Thansk,
Andrew.

Hi all,
Ok, Think I may understand it now.
If i support the rear end, remove the wheel, caliper, its hanger, and the disk,
and then remove the hub from the bike. then clean the outside of the hub, the swing-arm and all the other
parts, then re- greased it (Using bearing grease?) and put it back together, would that do it?
Or is the adjuster mechanism inside the hub?
Thanks,
Andrew.

Hi all,
For anyone wondering, the back of the bike need to be supported and then the hub needs to be removed.
Then the dirt (old stones) need to be cleaned from the out side of the hub and from inside the swingarm.
After putting the bike back together you will find that the chain adjuster and hub will move freely again.
Thanks,
Andrew.

dont grease the hub itself..
read the service manual in the downloads section or use the search function, this question has been covered a load of times before.
there are some advicses about using expanding foam to fill the gap in the swingarm to reduce stones too

I've done that. Worth it.

I've just stripped mine and put it back together. Circlip and brake mounting plate were a bit of a pain to get off but worth it. The hub was just about adjustable before but not very nice to do. There was tons of grit in there, which is all cleared out now and expanding foam dolloped into the other end.
