Hi guys, anybody know exactly what the knob on the res actually adjusts? It has markings for low- standard - high.
I guess it's rebound damping it adjusts, so would the setting of it adjust the speed at which the rear comes back up? Meaning that "high" means the rebound is quicker and "low" = slower? If so, weighing 80kg and doing spirited driving on fair roads, where should I set it at?

Also when carrying a pillion, should I go higher or lower?

The "instructions?" on the res are all in japanese, so sorry if this is a stupid question...

From the picture I have seen, the oem unit has no damping adjustment but does have ride height adjustment via spring preload adjustment. Hence, low-standard-high.

That would make sense then, thanks magg. I have the ass-end of the bike in the air, so cant test it out, but if it does lower and raise the rear that's actually pretty cool.

I thought it was rebound or compression, I will have to check the book when i next have time to read it.

The knob adjusment does somethign to the the shock resevoir, its stuck on the end of it. the actual spring is not adjustable like the later nc30 shocks, nor is the ride-height.

if you can post some pictures up of the label on it ill be able to see what it says

I recently had the pleasure of rebuilding/valving my NC24 shock so here is my take, the knob controls a hydraulic mechanism that adjusts ride height by pushing a collar down the upper shock body compessing the spring. I learned that the small spring is very strong , believe its was 900lb. when test with multiple cycles. Great little Showa unit and no other shock I found on earth will swap in.

I can't get a good shot of the sticker with the shock on the bike, this is from when I had it off for cleaning, don't think it'll help though, I can however confirm what shawntex has said, while sitting on the bike I wound out the knob and asked my wife to see if the bike dropped, and she said it definately did. So it is pre-load. Very cool indeed.



I wish I had the tools to strip the shock and clean/rebuild it, all I could (afford) to do was clean it up and spray the spring... It feels really as good as I would expect a 28 year old shocker to feel, and doesn't leak, so leaving it at that.
