rvf 400 running rough when warm/hot?

Hi everyone, im having a problem with my rvf 400,
its running really rough, once the temperatures start to get up. It runs okay once i get it started cold (starter motor on the way out) but once its hits about 60*c thats when it starts to get bad, the hotter it gets the worse it goes, spluttering and nearly no power/throttle response, and it stalls after 5-10 seconds if you dont keep the revs up manually. Once it stalls it gets nearly impossible to re start when hot.

It started happening every now and then a few months back, being fine some rides (max temp it has hit since ive owned was 101*c and it was going fine then) and doing this others, but it has happened the past couple times ive ridden in a row now.

The searches ive done so far have come up with possibly being valve clearences, fuel filter, or just the carbs need a good clean, has anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks in advance Drew

P.s. I pulled apart the fuel tap a few months ago and i believe it has the hrc mod because i dont recall seeing a spring, and it doesnt actually turn off even in off position, not sure if this could have anything to do with it? There is also a smell of fuel around the bike majority of the time, im guessing this is the reason

Thanks

It sounds like it is running rich. When is the last time the air filter was checked/changed?

It does, im going to try check out if the choke cable is sticking over the weekend and hope it could be something simple like that

I last checked the air filter maybe 2 months ago and it looked fine, its only done maybe 1000ks since then ill post results as i get them

Thanks

also check the carb rubbers,as if they are perrished/leaking it usually leans it out but it can play havoc when they warm up..
