Right guys hopefully the last question i need answering before i get my baby back on the road. I am changing my rectifier as the one i have keeps blowing my main fuse. When i looked at my existing rec there was alot of what i can only describe as silver looking gunk all over the lower part of it and all over the connection block. Does this sound to anyone like it was supposed to be there. I didnt know ic it was to help with thd heat dispertion of whether it is the result of the rec dying. Any advise welcome

Sounds like thermal paste, put it between the rectifier and the subframe.

weird to have a reg/rec blow the main fuse, you wiring it up properly? + and - not reversed?
if it is proepr shorted to earht thats bad news.
