Regulator

Hi all, I replaced my regulator about 2 months ago at a local bike shop, the one they replaced the original with looked similar to the original but had no branding or anything. 2 months later it has now failed. Can anyone recommend a regulator to buy online that will actually last. Also if I purchase it online about how long would the part take to arrive?

Thanks

Rick Oliver does a good one.

However, when the reg/rec is replaced it is essential that it is fitted correctly - i.e. is very flush against the frame as it used that as a heat-sink. It is the excess heat that kills them.

Also - if the battery is old or weak then that will also put extra strain on the reg./rec - so you should have had a new battery fitted

Also useful is the reg/rec modification where you run the wires direct to the battery.

Hi, I did replace the battery at the same time. Is the modification you are referring to you in the documents section?

Thanks

The mod was detailed in Practical Sportsbikes. The only reference online I could find was here:-

Saying that I believe someone on this forum might have done the mod but I cant find it.

I've done the upgrade. Took about 2mins. Voltage at battery increased from 13 to 14.6v

I replaced my reg with a CBR600 one and re-did the wiring since mine was melted. Not exactly bolt-on, but this one runs cool to the touch: http://blog.familjenjonsson.org/blog/20 ... -rewire-1/
