Hello All
A question I've meant to ask time and again - is the oil reading taken by just resting the dipstick on the opeing or is it taken when screwed down?
The bikes survived 5 years in my ownership now so I presume I'e been doing it right

This feels like it might result in a split vote. My vote goes to 'screwed down'.

Screwed down. But now you asked that I'm wondering about the alternative.

3 - 0 so far then. I don't know which would be worse, having the engine blow from over-pressure or grinding itself into a fine metallic dust

I check my oil level with the dipstick resting on top of the hole , I am fairly certain this is the correct method.

it should always be checked with the dipstick just resting on the threads not screwed in so start the engine run a few mins stop wait a couple of mins then dip resting on threads only this is the corect way and i have had 89 motorcycles now with many being HONDA hope this helps all the best rick

Oops, then I'd better recheck my oil tonight and top it up as I'm going to be a bit low (screw it in method man)

Its 100% left resting and NOT screwed in
