Hi guys, got to renew my rear disc on my nc35 and had a quick look, thought ah wheel off 4 bolts disc off, simple 10 minutes tops. No no no, have since realised its a whole hub out jobby so will take a while longer. I have read in thd haynes that once i have undone the main hub nut (on the left while sitting on bike) it needs to be repaced. Is this a nessesity or can i reuse the one i have. Is this because its been "spiked" into the rest of the hub, and does anyone know what size socket it is.

Book says replace, but most people don't. To be honest, at 200+ NM it's bloody tight to say the least! I would be very surprised if it managed to loosen by itself even if you didn't stake it again. Of course, if the lip is really shitty then it might be worth binning. They're not exactly big bucks to replace. I think less than a tenner.

You must remove the hub, it is a reasonable easy job, I just put standard axle stands under the foot pegs, remove the rear wheel 36mm nut (120Nm), release the 46mm nut (165NM) release the pinch bolt (55nm) spread the pinch and slide the hub out.

Once the hub is out it's a simply a 12mm socket and alan key

You can honestly do it in 20 minutes with the correct tools
