Hi guys,

In need of some help. I bought a set of the GPI Chinese rads from the ebay seller as I was led to believe they were of reasonable standard. Everything fits ok apart from the the threaded hole for the temp sensor is a lot bigger so it doesn't fit. has anyone else experienced this with these rads?? Hopefully its just a case of getting a sensor from another model or something otherwise the bottom rad is useless. Thanks

It's not an unknown issue. I don't know how other people have got around this, but I wonder if some sort of threaded insert might be in order? Alternatively, if yo can find someone who is an ali welder, maybe they could modify the rad to suit?

I got mine from Graeme France and the thread was the right size but bear in mind the sensor on the bottom rad is only for the fan switch.

So assuming it came with a blanking plug like mine did you could just ditch the sensor and rig up a switch to earth the sensor wire that you can manualy toggle to turn on the fan if the bike gets hot sat in traffic etc.

Wow. That's poor form. How the f* did they not test that? Do all of them have that issue?

Cheers gavin, I thought that was the temp sensor .
That works out fine cuz ive ditched the fan so I could fit a racing exhaust anyway. Didn't get a blank plug with it bit turns out I had something suitable in my box, think it's a sump plug or something. That's a relief.

lol, the part where they are made down to a price, is actually pretty commonplace on stuff like this, how else could they be 50% cheaper than the nearest well made rad.

plus the cost of people retuning them and the fact they are for old bikes who are most often for mechically minded people leads to low come backs unless they are totally unusubale, so no urgent need to improve production.

so for things like this they often dont even get informed they dirlled them wrong let alone return attempts as the buyers just adapt them to fit. as long as they "work" to a fashion then thats all they have to do.

and i believe they don't all suffer from the issue but that could just be becuase theee are more than 1 manufacturer.

if they are all acutally just made by the same place and re-sold then judging by production volumes i guess they would be small batches so probably not fully automated.

if they are all manually drilled then it could be something simple as somebody didnt double check the size before drilling a batch out, the place probably makes all different sorts of rads so it would be the case that something wasnt changed over.

On this subject, could anyone tell me what the bolt size is for the standard temp switch? (save me pulling mine out).. This one available here.. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Radiator-Fan ... 27f63b04b6 may fit your aftermarket radiator.. or may fit the standard one..
