where is the low beam relay mod usually situated on the nc30?

i reckon mine has it,and after checking the wiring diagrams im convinced it is a low beam relay mod.....in relation to the low beam relay(uk models)on the diagram it has the same colour wires etc.

Around the bunch of connectors on the front left side of the frame.

Although I stuck the NC35 one I did next to the Hi-beam relay. :D

Easy to tell (and find) just turn on the ign and see if there is a click of a relay turning on[1] then find where the click comes from!

[1] Assuming always on headlights, use the switch if not.

im not too sure whether my bike has it or not.
the strange thing also is the high beam relay on my bike is situated where the uk spec h/beam relay would be
according to the manual anyway!!!!

follow the wires from the switch to the bulb, if you come across a relay remove it and see if the lights still work.

Hi,

I assume this low-beam relay mod is to compensate for the inadequate wiring on the NC30 headlights? This mod isn't necessary on the NC35, the wiring is of sufficient size to handle 55W low beam bulbs.

Oh how wrong, it's not the wiring it's the switch!

How can I be so sure? Our NC35 did it! Took the switch apart and it was melted. Filed and cut it to the correct profile again and it worked for for a bit before dying again. Repeated again but this time put in the low-beam relay and had no problems with it since.

Hey, calm down - there's no need to be so matter-of-fact! I've had my NC35 for some 18 months now and have never had any bother at all with 60/55 lamps in mine. Is there no chance you have a poor switch?

I posted what I posted because the low-beam wire at the connector on the NC30 is a smaller gauge compared to the same wiring on the NC35. I made an assumption based on my experiences. Lets be honest for a minute - half the information posted on the internet is based on assumption rather than true and informed knowledge! This site is no different.

If I've misinformed anyone then they have my sincerest apologies.

if mine has not got the mod then it has done quite well,i ran it for 18mnths as a daily commute clocking a lot of miles even over the winter mnths(all weather rider)and never experienced any problems with the switch until just before i put it off the road at the tail end of august.....

i replaced the switchgear then it packed up immediately and then the next one is still on working fine......

so whether it is because of a poor switch or caused by running 60/55w bulbs then who knows!!!!
if it has the mod then that would rule the bulb out.

It's pretty straight forward really. Honda designed the loom to run Japanese spec globes. I'm pretty sure they didn't take into account grey imports lighting needs. The switch gear can last a few days or a few years running uprated globes, but it'll give up the ghost at some stage.
