re comissioning a VFR400K nc21

Hi stripped down and 're assembling all ok starts runs fine apart from yesterday, left it running on choke at about3000 rpm for a couple of mins on sidestand and ended up burning oil, blue smoke, stood it up turned off Cooke and ran clear again, I am flushing it out with 10w / 40 before new filter and oil, is this very bad? Also everything works apart from brake lights either brake, common fault? Thanks in advance Dave
