smoking battery trying to start

hi,

Hope someone can help.

I'm having starting issues (don't think the carbs are getting petrol to the engine), the bike is stripped down and I was trying to start using a screwdriver to manually move the choke on the carbs, there seemed to be a short and then it no longer turned over. I have checked the fuses and they are all in tact but when I press the starter there is a click then the battery fizzes and starts to smoke a little. Have I blowen the strater motor or is it something else?

any ideas?

Doesn't sound right does it :)

I think the solenoid or the main fuse could be the cause. but first take the battery off !!!
Follow the main red wire from the battery to the solenoid, some bikes have a main fuse attached to it, but I don't think fzrs do. There should be an inline fuse on a red wire between the battery area and fuse box.

It would appear to be the solenoid, tested it of the battery and it clicked but then when I tested with the multimeter the resistance didn't go down to zero, infact it didn't move so presuming there is no resistance in there.
