Front suspension options??

Hi all, recently just upgraded to a cbr600rr shock and cannot believe the difference it has made to the bike. Old shock was clearly completely shagged out.
So, with that in mind, was looking at upgrading or overhauling the front suspension as it feels pretty grim right now and as far as I know its only had a couple of front seal changes in its lifetime. After looking around, am I right in thinking that as an 8.5stone rider, just overhauling the front suspension with new springs and such would be fine? If I remember RO's upgrade kit is more based around making the springs stronger to account for heavier riders but would that not be detremental for me as it would not work so well?
Bar the upgrade kits, I did consider possibly swapping in an nc35 yokes, forks and brake callipers. Seems like that or try and get a cbr600 front end on instead?? Not sure, as most of the posts I have seen have catered to 10stone+ riders.

Any help appreciated, cheers

Hi watafu,

I do not have an answer to your question but I do have a question myself. What model VFR/RVF do you have and from which year is the CBR600RR shock? I'm looking into getting upgraded suspension on my NC24 as well, but don't really know which shock I should go for. Did you have to modify the bike a lot?

No worries, it was an nc30 that I fitted it too but I actually bought it to fit into an nc24 co-incidentally. If I remember the stock linkage was too long or short and it caused the spring to foul on the swingarm. There were a couple of other little problems aswell but I didn't have the time and tools to sort it out back then.

I believe it was a cbr600rr 2005-2006 rear shock, literally just needed to add a small spacer at the top and it was fine. The bike sticks to the road like never before now :)

No worries, there was a guide on how to fit it to an nc24 floating about on the net somewhere, will have a look for it when I get back from work later. Sure you had to drill a new hole in the shock mounting for the bottom linkage and slightly grind it down....something along those lines

Thanks! That doesn't sound like it's that much work, I'll search for it as well, two can do more than one after all!

Edit: Is this the topic that you meant? viewtopic.php?f=24&t=7643

nc35 forks are are not really an improvemnt over stock forks unless you have early 1989 forks.

if you have the later ones with the pre-load adjusters then a good check and rebuild might be all you need. bushes maybe worn now.
