just finished putting the carbs back together,finally got it going after lots of cranking and it decides to tick over at 4000,checked the choke and slides and there not sticking what should i try next.i dont want to take the carbs off if can avoid it. i strippedthe carbs to changed the jets and inlet rubbers.

Make sure there is free play in the throttle cable, there is an adjuster the twist grip end of the cable.
Back off the idle screw.
Air may be drawn in past one rubber, so remove each plug lead in turn to see if revs drop off the same for each one removed.

Spray something flammable around the inlet rubbers, see if the revs increase. Its pretty easy to have something not seated right and torqued down properly in that area, annoying aswell T_T Otherwise, reset your idle by checking the height its pushing the part that the throttle cables pull on, pull it all the way back so its not acting on it, then put it in a couple of turns and fire her up with a little choke. See where that lands you.

with the airbox off you can lift up the vaccumn slides to see the butterflies below, they should be closed, if they are open then adjust the idle speed down / check for snagged throttle cables.

if you have just one buttefly open more than the rest your carbs are somehow really off balance.

if the butterflies are cloesd and you still have super high idle you have an airleak on the rubbers

srpay a load of wd40 around the carb rubbers while its running and see if you cna stop it revving
