New suspension

Hi all,
Not been on here for a few years but eventually dusted of the bike and got back out today. Decided I should probably upgrade the suspension eventually. I was looking on EBay and noticed the cheapest ones on there are YSS for about £299 and wondered if anyone had bought or used one before and what they thought of them. It's bound to be better than the original suspension still on the bike but the fact it's about £80 cheaper than the hagon or nitron makes me a little suspicious.
I will probably just end up getting the front and rear suspension of Rick anyway.....

What sort of riding do you do?
How much do you have to spend?

The cheapest front fix (If you do it yourself- and a very good one too) is the Rick O upgrade with Racetech bits,

Rear shock is going to be more a case of get the best you can afford. Never used or know anyone thats used a YSS shock on an NC30/35 but i have read some reports on endurance riders sites that suggests they are pretty good. And from what i can gather they are made by ex Ohlins guys out in Thailand- so the tech and build should be good.

Just road riding really as the bike is only used as a toy every 3 months or so when I'm at home weather permitting, I could pretty much afford any shock but would rather buy the cheapest A) because I'm a tight Jock and B) I don't want to buy a shock that's worth more than or almost as much as the bike. It says free delivery in UK so not being sent from Thailand

What year bike do you have? is it late type forks and shock?

Might be worth getting a price to get yours rebuilt- or get a bmws1000rr shock and get it re-sprung.
There is a good thread on here about how to do it. almost straight swap very simple and you get a good load of adjustment.
Do the forks though the ride is much better

I wont recommend Mike Capon's Shock Factory M shock as I'm not an "expert" with suspension, but I would advise anyone interested on upgrading their rear shock to take a look at his M model. Daily I'm reminded what a good purchase this was while riding my bike. Its tween prices of Hagon & Nitron so worth a look if its in your price range.

From my limited experience, I think having the setup done by a professional is well worthwhile whatever rear shock you choose. MCT resprung my front forks to suit my weight then resprung and serviced the WP shock. Result is a 20 year old bike that feels better than a new one. So maybe find your local suspension expert and speak to them, and I'm sure you will get a better result, faster. Oh, and by the way, it's the best improvement I have made to my 35.
Let us know how you get on....

I put a nitron sport shock on my track bike, in conjunction with Ricks late model fork upgrade kit

Feels fantastic and really well balanced

Literally just come back from my first ride with a newly installed cbr600rr shock. Took a lot of fettling to get it in with the stock battery (Think wiring new earths for the HT coils and such and your on the right track. But seriously, completely changes the bikes handling, absolute joy to ride now. Worth bearing in mind I only weigh 8.5stone so the stock spring works great for me :)

Total cost - £40quid on ebay and a couple of pints for a friend who helped out

Thanks for replies, I'm definitely going to get Ricks kit for the front but still not decided about the rear. Not interested in BMW or CBR shocks though as to much messing around just want something I can plug and play. Now seen one of these YSS shocks for £229 so might just get that and maybe do a wee report on it seen as no one else seems to have one.

I wouldn't say the cbr600rr 2005 shock was hard to fit really, not if you have a spare couple of hours and the tools to hand or to borrow. I installed it in around an hour and a half with zero instructions and a vague hope it might work. Do let us know how the YSS shock works out, surprised there are no reports on its performance already
