Loose connection

One of the cables connected to the plug that goes directly into my R/R keeps coming loose. This means that when I have the headlights on my battery gets drained and eventually the bike dies.

I taped the wires up but after a long ride yesterday the tape has come off so I obviously didn't do a good job.

Can anyone recommend a good method/material to ensure the wire stays firmly in place?

Thanks in advance!

Jack

Oh....what you need is something to tie cables up with...

If only there were such a thing.

What would we call them if there were?

"Tie cable up straps" ?

"Cable tie ups" ?

"Cable ties" ?

;)

I'm thinking the problem is more the connectors/connection? Waterproof connection box?

Yes, I had thought of cable ties. The problem is within the connector itself though. The tip of the cable (metal part) has a tendency to become disconnected.

Icemaestro, are you asking me if it is? Because I don't know. The problem I think is the actual connection slot, but there must be a way to keep the wire in place without having to replace (presumably) the whole thing?

You can buy the connector blocks on eBay 2,3,4 pole whatever you need.
I wouldn't bugger about bodgeing that up as you'll fry the r/r eventually!
Just cut the old wires out one at a time and crimp and or solder the new ones on.

Thanks - excuse my ignorance but will I need a special type of crimper? I've only ever crimped networking cables!

Nope, nothing special - my last rr i crimped connectors on to each end of the wires then heat shrink over the top :-) the set of connectors and tool cost 15$(nz) from the local auto store.

I am having trouble finding the right connector in the UK. I've found one in China but that could take ages to deliver, don't want to be out of action for that long :(

Is it not a 5 way I want? One of those has a 5 way but they are all on the same row, mine needs to be effectively double decker to fit the plug I thought?
