Hi Guys,

I'm new here and have a new bike... well an old new bike :D My VFR NC24 only cost me £375 off a mate but its sat for a while (at least 18 months) and I think the jets need cleaning.

It purrs lovely when started, don't cough or splutter but won't tick over unless the choke is at least on half or more. Someone has informed me that its almost certainly the idle jet? I have looked for guides on how to take out my carbs and clean the jets and this is the closest to my bike i have found... a nc30 guide http://www.400greybike.com/files/NC30%2 ... 0Guide.pdf

are they the same carbs and if not will this guide do the trick? I'm a builder but have an ok knowledge of mechanics what with motorcross engines I tinkered with as a kid.

Oh and also I need a new wing mirror, wemoto sent the wrong one so thought you guys may know of somewhere that does a mirror with fixing bolts @ 40mm centres ?

hi and welcome,if its been standing for that amount of time then its most probally the carbs gummed up,its nearly the same as the nc30 carbs,just follow that thread and give them a good clean out and all will be fine...cdheers

wing mirrors are like rocking horse shit. yuo can get some aftermarket ones that will fit.. i think R6 fit and look nice (I will have ot check but if you need the info I can get)

carbs are more or less silmilar ot the nc30 carbs so get em off and clean em up nice and use lots of high pressure compressed air through the small pilot circuits, thats mostly the problem with smooth idle.

if its not idling at all the slow jet might be complete bogged.

while you have apart reset to factory settings.

6.8mm float heights all round 2-1/4 turns on the pilot screws from fully in and make sure jetting and emulsion tubes are right way around..

emulsion tubes with more holes go in the rear carbs.

easy if you take your time



use an old credit card to cut out 6.8mm like above

tilt the carbs at 30 degress, you want the float to be resting on the springy pin of the needle valve but if you have them flat then then weight of the float compresses the springy valve and you end up with wrong setting.
