Howdy,

Looking to wrap my OEM headers in order to not have so much heat wafting up onto me when sitting in traffic. Can someone who has done this advise how much material you used and what the ideal width was to deal with the bends?

I wrapped the standard system on mine last year I used 4x5 meter rolls with a bit left over, I run no fan and a oil cooler and the heat wrap makes a big difference just make sure you wear some decent gloves or you'll end up with lots of fiberglass in your hands

Sorry was that 4cm wide x 5m long, the roll you used?

Personally I wouldn't bother. Heat reduction will be minimal, but wet pipes and the extra heat can kill your headers pretty quickly.

I had mine wrapped for a bit - not needed IMO.

ah good old fire-bike.

dont forget the rear heads sit back towards the crown jewels so even wrapped headers dont acutally reduce a lot of heat, but on a road bike can trap water and other shit, not so bad on s/s pipes but does go all shitty quickly.

I just got some "std" sized wrap and then proceeded to get firbreglass itch for a week or so as I was too stupid to wear gloves.

It held water, was stinking a lot and I doubt it did my pipes any good. It was cooler, but not really worth the ballache IMO.

If you always ride in the dry then it might be OK, but for the gains vs ballache it was a stupid idea.
