fzr400 rake angles

Hi all,

Quick question - do the rake angles differ between the 1WG / 3EN / 3TJ models?

I thought that they were all 1400mm wheelbase and 24 degrees rake, but after surfing (probably far too late and far to tired) I think I might be wrong :(

would anyone be able to confirm?

thanks.

thanks Willandrip,

so thinking out aloud, that could either be becuase the frame is longer or the wheels rolling radius was larger due to 18 inch rear.

the ground clearance is higher on the 1wg.

the swingarms from reading elsewhere are the same length.

hmmm.

it would be interesting to see the 1wg and 3TJ frames side by side. I can see that the 400rrsp frame is beefier and has the massive casting on the back which holds the seat up, but I wonder if the upper shock mounting is any different location wise?

The RR SP frame is the same as the 3TJ. The difference is more likely to be in the frame, 3TJ the rear wheel, although 17" dia is 4.5" wide which pinches the 160 tyre up .... the result is the o/a dia is similar to the 18" wheel with a 140 tyre.

so did 400 have a 24 degree rake angle from the onset with the 1wg for certain or did the rake change across models?

The upper shock mount appears to be in the same place across frame variants with just casting vs fabrication being the differing factor?

the reason I ask is because one location mentined it as being 26 degrees - and online scans of those early borchures are non existent to be able to verify.

From the document above the rake stays the same ... so I assume the frame is shorter.

The shock on the 3TJ is quite a bit longer than the 1WG. So I's assume the shock mount is in a different place, this is because a 3TJ swingarm can be put into a 1WG frame, presumably using the existing shock.

right, after some photoshop overlaying and rough eyeballing the frames are very different over and above the obvious.

The 1WG frame has the engine mounded slightly nose down but the swingarm pivot is lower than the 3tj.

Hi,
Re Boris's post, the 3tj arm does fit the 1wg frame-use the 1wg pivot bolt bushed to fit swingarm bearings, use original shock & knuckle. Different length dog bones are required though - Kayla has done this conversion a few times. Hope this helps. :peace:

cheers freefallfil. It was more just trying to work out where the RRsp gets its shorter wheelbase from over the 1WG.

I get the feeling that the 1WG frame is longer from the leading edge of the engine to the headstock judging by the gap between radiator to and forks I've seen on pics of both frames with engine in situ and with fairing off
