NC24 Big rear nut removal

Hi there,
I'm having trouble removing the big nut on the rear axle next to the sprocket on my 1987 NC24. There seems to be a tab bent down on it that I have lifted up, and I have drenched it in penetrating fluid. I have leaned on it with some grips (parallel jaw ones that don't mash the corners). It just isnt budging. Is there some trick I'm missing or should I go and get the huge socket and get a huge bar on it?
Cheers,
Josh

Socket and a long bar, you won't shift it with grips. I seem to recall having to use an old fork tube over the end of an 18" breaker bar to shift the one on my NC30. Since it holds the rear axle in they're torqued up pretty tight.

Thank you for the advice. The cush drive must be gone because there is loads of slop on the sprocket before the wheel moves. Cheers

Its about 165nm or more, you need to apply the rear brake fully and use either a big heavy duty monkey wrench or some socket / bar
and yep, lift the stake off the nut before you undo it and restake it after putting it back on.

Thank you. I have the 36mm socket and and 18 inch bar. It still won't budge so I will look for some pipe!

Scaffolding pipe on the bar did the trick :)

make sure you dont over-tighten it when you put it back on, some people tend to use airguns and stuff which can toruqe upto 340nm or so which is waay too muh.
hows the cush-drive btw?

Cheers I wish I had an airgun and a big compressor but I don't!
The rubbers look fine, the little tab that joins them is broken on every one. The slop looks like this:

They are very hard rubber. I thought about shimming them with something, but innertube or silicone is going to be too soft I think. I have bought new ones from wemoto so hopefully they will sort out the slop.

the play in the video above looks normal.
the bike only runs in one direction so once it is under load it doesnt move, its supposed to have some flex in it.

OK I thought that any play was bad... I've bought new rubbers now so I might as well fit them. They are definitly bigger than the old ones. The Hub Sprocket O ring 91352-ML0-731 was broken and and unavailable from DSS or Lings so I measured it and ordered some from ebay, if anyone needs one let me know I've got 10.
