Evening all new to the forum, bought myself a honda vfr 400 nc30, which I can honestly say is so much fun to ride wanted one for years and now I own one.

The problem I have is when I had the bike on the stand this evening I put the bike in first gear, held the clutch in and noticed the back wheel was spinning, At first I didn't think to much as this can be the norm, until I though it was going a bit too fast. So decided to press my foot against the tyre and it made no difference and no sign of slowing the wheel.

Now is this normal for it to be spinning fast or should I take it in to local bike shop.

Any help appreciated

Usual culprit for this is a worn clutch basket, grooves develop which make it harder for plates to slide apart. The grooves can usually be dressed out with a fine file if you're careful.

Thanks for that, what's recommended then replace clutch?

If it's bad enough that the bike tries to creep forward when you're sat stationary on it in gear with the clutch fully engaged then it's probably worth stripping the clutch out and checking it. Get a haynes manual if you haven't already, you'll need a special tool for the clutch nut but i think they're available on ebay these days.

Mine was so badly worn that i had to keep the brake on and it would stall if you didn't keep the revs up slightly.

If its creeping when your sat on it then it needs stripping.you dont need to if its up on the stand and spinning

make sure the adjustment is set before you start worrying about it - if it drags a bit when you are sat on it and it doesn't stall then no worries.

make sure the clutch cable is adjusted properly before tearing it apart. if its not engaging the clutch enough then that will cause it to slip to.

how about if you put it in 1st, pull the clutch in and thrn put the back brake on? does it stall the motor?

if you do strip it and need a new basket then i have two or 3 good ones available.

Thanks for the replys no bike doesn't creep forward when in gear and on the floor, clutch bite point is right at the end of the lever, maybe just a simple adjustment?

Yes - adjust the clutch lever.
Also maybe invest in a new clutch cable - just to have on hand - cos if yours has stretched it might snap?
