I bought this over a year ago as a basket case project from a member on here and have finally got round to starting it. I did think I'd have everything restored as original as possible but that's not very practical and would be very expensive so I've decided to clean everything as much as possible and limit new bits to only what's needed.
Started cleaning the engine and it's come up really nicely. Will get it serviced properly before fitting it in the frame. Needed a few little items but all in it's quite good.
I've got boxes and boxes of spares to go through as I haven't had chance to check what's there and what's not. However I do have these two to use as parts mules and will have enough left over to make almost another bike. Will sell all the surpluses off though including the spare UK spec engine I have.

I follow your approach to restorations or refurbishments.
Once you start down the repaint/rechrome/replace road then not only is the character of the bike lost but it becomes so expensive that it is no longer enjoyable.
Even if money is no object; then the rivet counters start to pick faults with things like; was it a cadmium finish or chrome on fastenings ?
Far better to retain the patina and have a clean looking and mechanically sound motorcycle.
Have fun.

I went a bit OTT on the RVF so don't want to do that again with this one. Just give it a really good clean, replace all the bushes, bearings and cables and that's about it really. I will get certain bits repainted but other than that it'll just be a simple put it all back together job (famous last words) lol
The really good thing is that it came with two sets of UK mirrors which after being stuck in a lockup in Walderslade for the last year or so have now made their way to my garage :-) I'll restore both sets and then flog on the remaining set.

In general it's all pretty good. Not going to go overbored like the RVF but I will make sure it looks good. The bodywork will get professionaly painted though.

Going to order some Samco hoses soon but instead of the usual blue I was thinking black so as to stay looking originalish. That'll be the buzz word for this project I think Originalish lol

In an effort to keep costs down I might keep those colours. But I am tempted to turn it all white but with red wheels.
