Is it normal for the charging voltage to barely reach 13v @3k rpm as the manual states 14.3v to 15.3v? Sounds a stupid question i know but the NC30 manual states roughly the same yet mine and many others ive seen only output 13v odd @ 5k rpm and run fine.

Um ... well I usually look for 14.5v but not at tick over obviously, probably around 5k rpm.
If it's an FZR then it's probably ok, you'll know because the battery will drain, and then it's not ok

Hondas are know to have dodgy electrics FZR's are a far superior bike of course

Nope no one wanted it lol. It just got pushed to the corner of the shed and forgotten until the other day a mate of mine was looking over it and mentioned the fuel tap being hard to reach, what fuel tap I say? For some reason I never thought it had one and as it was snapped off I never see it, it was in the off position so that explained why after I eventually got it going on an auxiliary tank it failed to work with the tank on, doh! School boy error but guess what it runs lovely now bar the revs hanging a bit but ive put this down to the air box not sitting on the carbs 100%. Its also insured, mot'd, taxed and registered so it'll get its maiden run when I get time.

But we have established the fuel tap is working

What voltage does the battery hold dsconected and charged ? If its low it could be the batterys a bit duff

Take the lightweight battery with you for your first ride
Like i say id usually expect to measure the voltage at a higher rpm.

I'll take it out tomorrow if I get a chance. Voltage didnt increase significantly no matter how high you rev it on either battery
