NC24 starting problems

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a vfr400 nc24 (love it) but when going I start it after work it seemed to have drained the battery.
I charged the battery but then the starter relay just buzzed and didn't turnover the starter motor.

Long story short I've put a new battery and starter relay and it worked for a day and now the relay just makes the clicking noise again. I'll try and get a multimeter to test the voltages but in the mean time I just want to see if anyone had any ideas on what I can do to help the situation.

Cheers

it usually clicks when the battery is low, not the starter is faulty so you probably didnt need to test it.

Your reg/rec and maybe generator is probably dead.

old / failing batteries place a lot of extra demand on the reg/rec and they are not so heavy duty on the VFR so die easy.

get a multimeter and check the battery terminal voltage with the bike off

then bike running at idle and at 5000rpm and post back results.

I replaced the battery with a mobatt as the old one didn't look like it had been maintained, and I found that it only drains when the steering lock is on?! So I've stopped using the steering lock and its been fine. Makes no sense to me

Sounds like you have a wire shorting out somewhere, or you're putting parking lights on?

Just flicking through the forum as I have an Nc24 myself theat I am.currently trying to get back on the road and have done the latter so much, flicked the parking lights on instead of the steering loc, came to work on the bike the day after and scratching my head as to why it would not start
