That sounds so V-4. Does the new R-1 have gear driven cams?

You better start eating!

From the new R1 press release..............."With the torque of a twin and the rpm's of a four, the R1's crossplane crankshaft moves each piston at 90° from the next with a unique firing order of 270-180-90-180 degrees. Originally pioneered in Yamaha's YZR-M1 MotoGP missile, crossplane technology puts each crank pin 90 degrees from the next, with an uneven firing interval of 270-180-90-180 degrees.

This uneven order does something pretty radical. It actually helps the power build more smoothly. That means smooth-as-silk roll-on delivery out of the corners, with bagsful of torque, followed by very strong, high-rpm power. It's like having two engines in one: the low-rpm, torquey feel of a twin combined with the hyperkinetic, high-rpm power of an inline four. As a 2009 R1 rider, you'll enjoy more linear throttle response with awesome power and traction exiting corners. "

So Ducati, Aprillia and now Yamaha (sort of) have beaten Honda into developing a V4 (ish in terms of the R1) engine for the road....in a modern superbike chassis.....why won't the big H pull their thumb out?

Oh well, have you seen the new R1? Definately not much of a looker......

The firing order of 270-180-90-180 degrees are exactly how all VFR750/800F works,so no wonder it sounds like a VFR :D

In the pictures I've seen, and with most new bikes, they really need to sort those tails out! Why do they feel it necessary to have them pointing to the sky? :? (And don't get me started on those number plate brackets...) :D
:Soap:

wow. ive just now realised the whine of the gear cams sound almost indentical to the whine of a supercharger.
