Hi, i've got a leak at my sprocket, i pulled the seal out and the shaft looks to be worn. Can the piece that slides over the splines be removed without splitting the engine? I know the engine should be split to fit the new seal but was thinking is it possible to cut the lip on the seal off and fit it and possibly put a sealant on the outside edge to keep it in place, just a thought.

I don't think that's a good idea. I assume the fairly sizeable step in the seal is to prevent the crankcase pressure from blowing the seal out. Granted, splitting the cases is going to be a very long and tedious job (and expensive if you pay to have it done), but I'd not trust some gasket sealer to hold a seal in place. All it's really good for is taking up small imperfections between two surfaces that are held together by something more solid.

Unfortunately I agree with speedy. You really need to split the cases to fix this problem. While you are in there, you might as well check the piston rings and bearings.

Going to pull the engine out tonight and split it and do it properly, I kind of knew that was the only way to go. I was hoping there might of been an easy way out.

While your there you might as well replace the gearchanger shaft seal and clutch rod seals too as they dont cost a lot but cost a lot to replace.

Might be also worth as mentioned above getting a bit of plastigauge adn checking everythings in spec.
