I was hoping someone could help me, as recently i have been having some electrical problems with my NC30, it started off by running normally for 10miles and then the techo died and as you tried to give it some revs it just would spuatter. I realised the exhaust was leaking so i fixed the leak and it was back to normal again.

About 2 weeks after that incident it happened again but this time when i started it up i could only use the headlights and starter motor and nothing else (rear light, indicators, Tacho, the lot). As i started to ride it the same thing happened, it just spauttered and wasn't giving hardly any power. As i continued to ride it eventually the indicators started to work, then then tocho and it wasn't long till the engine started running normally again.

Today i tried starting it up but it was just turning the engine, tried more choke but it just kept turning, it was almost as if the kill switch was off and eventually the battery was flat. I dont know what might of caused this, my only throught was that the cdi wasn't powering the spark plugs. Well im going to leave the battery on charge tonight and see what happens.

Sounds like you need to check the earths on the bike and also do a check of the fuses etc.

Have you had the bike long - has anything changed with it since it used to work well?

Whjere are you based? if you are local then one of us helpful chaps (or chapesses) could come and have a look, drink your tea and see if there is something to be sorted!

Rick Oliver sells a grounding kit. I have one but haven't fitted it yet, might be worth a tenner just to rule that one out quickly?

Cheers for that, i have been aware that there is something wrong with the earth for my rear lights as they dimmed when the indicator was on, but how do you check/fix a earth???

It has been working well for the last 4 months i've owned it but i did recently install a alarm myself so that may have triggered something. I located in west sussex (near brighton) so it might be the most expensive cups of tea you have ever drunk lol

you will need to locate the earths - unbolt them and clean the mating surfaces to ensure a good contact and then bolt them back up nice and tight.

also would be useful to check the condition of the wiring if you can take the panels off to have a good look.

Rear lights always seem to have shitty earths on vfr400's :/

Would the installing of your alarm have created a leak somewhere maybe?

I dont see why the rear lights have to be earthed, can i just attach is direct to the battery? Also where about is the earths, i know where the rear light one is but where are the others?, sorry for all the questions i just really don't want to remove the fuel tank if i dont need to.

the one that may be causing your problem is situated just in front of the ignition coil on the left hand side......the ignition coil that is in front of the choke lever.
there is also one by the rear ignition coil,this is the one that the battery negative leads to.
