gk76a carb removal demo

being non mechanical it has taken me about four months to get the confidence to remove my carbs. i couldn't find a specific youtube clip+ i needed an idiots guide that explained the obvious....
So i made a clip when i took mine out.
forgive the poor terminology and less than professional capture.

I stripped mine yesterday and then looked at your video.
My main jet tubes are also bent? Strange!!
Where did you get them from??

Very good video, thanks for putting in the effort.

Those Mikunis are the most fiendishly complex carbs I've ever seen or worked on in my entire life, either car or motorcycle (and I've only got the version that was used on the Bandit400, which are a bit simpler than the GSXR version).

I believe they (the version used on the GSXR) represent the absolute zenith of production motorcycle performance carburetor development, when they are properly fettled and adjusted that is. The problem, as you well know, is keeping them healthy and happy.

I noticed that you used the word "Phillips" a couple of times when referring to your screwdriver. You should never use Phillips-type screwdrivers on Mikuni carbs. You need a set of JIS drivers (Japanese Industrial Standard) because they have a unique bit profile. (JIS screw heads can be identified by the little dot or divot in the crux of the head).

737, thanks for the jis info. i had read that that was what the head of the screw was. but being impatient i managed to get them undone with a hammer and drill bit tapped into the side, followed by a phillips. As a result the screws will need replacing and i retain my title as bodge master! ill probably replace them with hex head.

my jets arrived today, so i replaced them and put my bike back together.
t.b.h. i don't think replacing them was necessary. but it made me feel better.... Shiny! and straight.

i took it for a test run after calibration. and it ran like shit. then i realized i'd left the vacuum caps of the carbs. Doh!!
So, tomorrow is the day...
