I am after some help, I have a NC35 on Friday I was coming down the motorway and all of a sudden the bike started to sound like there was no oil in it or something inside was loose, it started to loose power as well like it was running on three cylinders temperature gauge was showing on half, I pulled of the next junction and engine died with the temperature on the maximum, I left the ignition running as the fan was still on.
After 20mins pulling up it never wanted to cool so I managed to start it and thought going at 60/70mph should allow enough air to start cooling,
I only got to about a few yards and it died like the battery was num. I managed to roll it down and bump it to get life again which it did thought no stopping now kept the engine at about 3000rpm constant for about 30 seconds till it died again. To add no water came out the expansion tank and fan was still running.
Cut the story short got it back home checked the battery which was ok put a load test on it its holding on the green, could only hear the starter solenoid click, so opened the starter and tried it which it turns ok fine.
I have taken the plugs out put it in second gear and tried rocking the engine but doesn't want to move.
No oil or water has mixed and the oil level was on maximum once the engine had cooled and there was enough water left in it.
Today I have taken the plugs out put some oil into the bore and will leave it over night to see if it loosens up.

Well 13,000 could be genuine but it really doesnt mean anything on a greybike as it could have been changed by many of the previous owenrs, by an importer or even before it came to the uk. much better to check the condition.

it doesnt sound too mint if its exploded. Very odd to have it sieze up on your if it really has. many eletrical issues will play havoc with the running of the bike and the way the temp gauge works.. for example a bad earth will put the temp gauge all the way to hot (fan wont run though) but can cause it to missfire too.

Since your fan was on it does soudn like it was hot.

Either an airlock, blocked rad, broken waterpump, lack of oil / oil pressue.

From what Im understanding from your thread the battery is ok but when you crank it the starter just clicks right (as in sized engine)

forget turning it by hand for now but have you put it in gear and tried pushing it along? Your starter motor could just be jammed causing the relay to click and make it hard to turn by hand..unbolt the starter motor and push it in gear first off.

if it really is siezed up id say its already scrap, bores are part of the crankcase, oversize pistons of decent quality are non-exsistent or super money, gasket kit is going to cost the earth.

Ive seen cam damage from crap in the strainer blocking the sump but you should have got an oil pressure warning light if that was the case.

Start with the starter motor as its super easy to remove and will allow you to push the engine if its broken /jammed.

Thank you for the reply, I have removed the starter and starter spins when you press the starter button so starter is ok, when you say "will allow you to push the engine if its broken /jammed" do you mean put the bike into second gear and push it/move it and see if the engine will move???

any pictures of these cams? They would be worn out very quickly if there was no oil.

It is very rare for an oil pump to go, you would also get that bright red idiot light come on if it did.

And yes... if your start spins then something is jaming the engine, leave it off and put the bike into gear and trying pushign it, 6th gear is easier to push but any gear will do.. pushing it with plugs out will make it easier.

the cylinders arnt full of petrol are they from leaking carbs/ this could cause a hydraulic lock.

Get some pics of the cams, take the plugs out and trying pushing the enigne along in gear with the plugs out.

Hard to make a decent guess at the moment but no water in oil and no idiot light on and no metal in the oil doesnt sound too much like a sized engine, you coudl eb unlucky but try pushing it along and see what the crack is (remember to leave the plugs out)
