NC30 Mount Reconstruction - FG Specialists I need you

Hey Guys,

Heres the situation. I have a tyga original shape nc30 nosecone on the front of my racebike. Two chaps decided to bin it at the top of Cadwell's Mountain and not seeing them I had no choice but to go head long into them.

Long story short I now have a front fairing with a now fairly clean 10cm hole where the front mount point should be where the alloy fairing stay was forced through it....I need to take a mould of the recessed mount on the front of my Mrs's standard NC nose cone but do not want to damage the paint in any way.

What methods/products do people recommend? Would be a bloody shame to chuck away an otherwise perfectly good nosecone!

Cheers,
Dx4

damn i chucked away a broken nosecone the other day that had no issues withthe middle part you could have had.

I guess it all depends on what equipement, materials and budget you have in mind.

you could get some kids plastecine and shove over the nosecone and then cover that with plaster of paris to make a nice mold.

sugru is good stuff, a self-setting silicon rubber type stuff, you could also use that to make a mold and peel it off hopefuly without damaging it.

those are a couple of ways ive done similar stuff with "at home stuff" before with fairly decent rsults... maybe some other people have some better ideas :)

A plastex kit comes with a moulding bar that can be made pliable in hot water then firms on cooling unsure if plastex will take to fg though ?

There must be someone on here that has a damaged fibreglass fairing.
They could cut the piece out and send it to you,Then all you would have to do is bond it in.

Neo.... That's a bugger! the budget can be anywhere up to 100 quid before it becomes more economical to buy a new one from tyga.

Sugru sounds interesting...how hard does it go when it goes off? Can I just seal it, PVA, gelcoat it and then go straight to FG/GRP?

Benny, I'm based out Worcestershire way.

Davethetrucker, plastex and fg would be something I would be worried about mixing. However if its non porus I could use that to mould with especially if it doesn't stick to the paint.

Hunter that approach certainly feels like the least amount of arsing around. I hope someone finds this thread and can help!
