Does anyone know if it is possible to separate the cast aly lower pieces (the ones which the calipers bolt on to which clamp the front axle in place) from the chromed stanchions ?? i'm stripping my forks and want to get the stanchions TiN coated and the aly pieces either powder coated or re anodised? anyone got any experience with this? Cheers all, Martin

I asked this before and was told IIRC there is a small screw to undo and then they unscrew.

Hi there,

When I had mine overhauled, I was advised you need to heat the area around the grubscrew to remove it, then unscrew them. Apparently, there is a very strong permanent threadlock used in there also so you need to be prepared to give them a good bit of force to break the join initially.

Thanks.

Someone asked this question before and IIRC I posted a picture. There is a small set screw on the inside of the lower fork, right in the center, take a look down in that small hole. Adding heat and patience definitely recommended.

Thread high jack!!!!!

Is it possible to take 600rr K6 lower fork apendages and attach them to the chrome RVF pieces? radial calipers would be ace!

If they're the same size forks I guess there is a chance!

Cheers guys, i had a look 2day but my torx socket set doesn't go small enough for the grub screw so will borrow one and have a go using a good amount of heat  :!: i think most bikes with radial calipers use 43mm forks as opposed the the nc35's 41mm but i think its worth looking into a bit more as they would probably be the same pitch thread if you could find a 41mm set :D

in order to undood the grub screw you need a torx T7 sized key once undone the stanchion should come loose easily
good luck

hi guys, just finished stripping the forks - got the grub screws out ok, they turned out to be torx T8, had to use alot of heat to get the stanchions to unscrew from the fork bottoms tho as the casting had corroded a little inside - am going to reasemble with tef gel to stop this happening again.

Next question! does anyone know where i can send the stancions to be TiN coated?

Thanks again for all the help, Martin
