Hey Folks,
I just signed up as this is arguably the best forum about the little 400s.
Please excuse this post without introducing myself but my request is pretty urgent:
I made out recently that my baby lacks some new break pads and tyres.
Any suggestions, whats best for it at the moment?
regards

For tyres read this:

Essentially if your in the UK go for BT090 front and BT092 rear for commuting/everyday riding. Elsewhere in the world these tyres might not be available.
Everyone says go OEM for brake pads. I have no idea where to get these from. Although did a quick search and found this:

Rick Oliver on the forums has the OEM Nissin pads - i bought a pair last year and they are the business.
As for tyres, as sil3nt says, a lot of people of people go for BT090 front and BT092 rear for a commuting set up, personally, i prefer BT090's front and rear, the 090's are the law grip wise, and if you're thinking of doing a trackday the 090 would be the weapon of choice if you have the 18in rear wheel, although i know some have used the 092 on track and it's been alright. 092 is a sport touring tyre so is a good all-rounder when i had a pair fitted i can't say i had any complaints really, suppose it comes down to what you intend to do on the bike.

Welcome to the forum.
I usually use ebc organic pads, but oem ones are supposed to be better. Don't buy cheap ones off ebay, I did that when I first got mine and they've killed the disc's.
Tyre wise I have a bt092 on the back and it does whatever I've asked it to and never had a problem, and have a 014 on the front which I don't like really.
Cheers
Ian

Thank you for the numerous qualified posts!
I'm going to take your advice and go for BT090 front and BT092 rear.
Suppose, the BT092 doesnt square off that quick.
(Hope its superior to my BT014 which i hate for the hard compound and rapid wear...)
And, is it good to have a 160 width at the back?
Its somewhat hard for me indeed to find these tyres in Germany.
Does anyone know a dealer that ships to Deutschland?
Furthermore it would be useful to know the full tyre numbers, cause
I find this a bit confusing: what does F, R and PRO at the end stand for?
Front/Rear, and?
Could someone please give me an example of his own?
ps. I made my decision for the pads yet - gonna contact rick for the OEM ones.

pro is professional i guess, for competition use. it bt090.
the correct tyre is 150/60/18
nothing wrong with using a 150 if you can get them, sometimes a 160 will hit the chain

The sticker under the pillion says VFR400R III M.
But theres no such type in the parts lists below.
So would I need 4 times 45105-KV3-701 for the 2 front brakes
and
43105-MR7-017 and 43106-MR7-017 for the rear one as the part numbers are all the same for all models?
source:
front pads
rear pads

That is correct although I believe the part number has now changed to 45105-MW4-006 . Contact RickO.

as for today the new pair of BT090s arrived.
(BT092 for the rear wasn't available at all)
They look good - hope they're gonna please me like you promised.
I also got new sets of OEM pads luckily from a local dealer that had it on stock!
Now looking for a white tyre color to make it look rad.

pen or brush? Need a good one since I dont want to mess up the new rubbers with a cheap marker. any suggestions?
photos incoming - when it's done.

ive used a white paint pen branded for tyre marking, looked just the same as a normal paint pen, if your steady with a brush youcould probably do a neater job, i eneded up painting in the recessed letters and then sanded the over-spill off with some sandpaper held flat on a block.
or were you thinking of painting the whole wall? then masking tape a brush as a pen wont do that.
