As title says, I need to remove swingarm from my NC30, any advice? What stand(s) do i need as i only have a ABBA stand?

abba stand is all u need.unbolt shock top bolt.swingarm bolt.of with caliper.and linkage bolt.should.come straight of...although not sure if the exhaust has to come of

You'll need a castlellated socket for the swingarm pivot bolt. Honda tool is silly money, but people do replicas on eBay, and you never know, someone here might be able to lend you one.

Benny, if you have the Abba stand you are nearly there. You will also need the "Swing arm removal kit" (http://www.abbastands.co.uk/product_details.asp?id=21) and you are sorted.

When you fit the Abba stand normaly you locate it in the swing arm pivot bolt, so the swing arm removal kit enables you to locate the satnd where the rearsets normaly go, lhence then leaving you access to the swingarm bolt

As Speedy says you will need the Castelated socket like so:


This is the puker Honda item which also does the Clutch Nut (available from Rick Oliver I belive) but cheaper copies are available and I have even heard of people making there own with an old socket and an angle grinder

When you consider that the copies are at least a tenner with postage and are only one sided the Honda one isnt that expensive...

Actually, these days it's £40!

The subject of the various tools is a bit confusing to me... there's the clutch tool 07716-002-0203 (£40) which has two ends, one for the clutch and one for what some people suggest is the swingarm, and others have said is the engine mounts. There is/was 07908-4690001 at about £100 that has a single castle and offset hole for the wrench, which has been superceded by 07908-4690003 that has no offset, and two ends, with flats across the middle for possibly the same price. For about £25 you can get a copy of the original form with offset on eBay.

Benny - I asked exactly the same question about "how do you torque the nut back up properly" - see here (viewtopic.php?f=24&t=42643)

The double ended socket will undo the castled lock nut and from what I could find out most people just use it to tighten (torque) the lock nut back up on refitting and don't worry, or have problems with the pivot bolt turning as they do.

The genuine double ended socket is a quality piece of kit (as you would expect) if not cheap. A quick look on EBay and I spotted this for just a tenner (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Type-Cl ... 58ab2c1d5f) I don't have my socket to hand to check the dimensions but it looks about right. I am sure someone else will confirm or deny if it is the same.

I might be a tool snob - but I always believe if you buy cheap tools, you will buy twice etc.

If anyone could confirm that is the right tool NG posted it would be great.
Also is there any common mistakes to look out for? Or anything else i could do that's worth doing whilst i have the swing arm off?
