Whats the trick to fitting the airbox onto the carbs? I Have the right airbox for the cv carbs, Ive heated the rubbers so they're are supple and greased them but I just cant get them on. The rubbers are rock hard when cold but soft when heated up so is it just a case of new rubbers or am I missing the obvious?

The biggest problem comes when the airbox has been left off the carbs and the rubbers no longer seem to fit.
It may pay to take the carbs off and see if you can fit them to the airbox on the bench.
Heating/wintergreen treatment/boiling in antifreeze/ soaking in xylene/toluene thinners and heating have all been tried.
There is no substitute as good as new rubbers.
I've clarted on with old airbox boots till frustration forced new to be purchased.
With badly fitting old softened rubbers; every time a performance fault occurs, the rubbers need to be checked to eliminate
that the airbox has rattled off. :down:

Forgot about this method ;

Its a bodge but does work.
On new:
If you take the part no. into a local dealer you may get a bit discount rather than ordering from cmsl. !

EDIT:
Southend Chris /Rock TJ fitted cheaper 1WG genesis ones and said they were OK.

I think you are going to revert to flatsides at a later date anyhow ?
You could economise if so ! ;)

The 3tj rubbers from carbs to box are different to 1wg's.
Try taking the top off the air box and pressing it into place but new rubbers will sort it.

3TJ rubbers appear NLA from CMSL.
However;

Shows stock but sit down before pricing shipping.

Chris may be along to verify fit of 1WG units.

15 quid isn't so bad.
I'd get a secondhand airbox.

£9 each at fowlers but no stock. Already had 2 second hand boxes with rock hard rubbers :(

So what happens when there no stock left are we all distined to have poorly fitted airboxes?

The 1WG items may well be different but they DO work. The airbox will sit 5-10mm higher but mine didn't hit the tank when I put all mine back together. I bought new ones from CMNSL and they went in easier than........no I wont go there ;)

I'd agree with new 1WG being easy to fit - when I did both my 3en2's the rubbers were solid so I used new ones. Thankfully the 3TJ rubbers have been ok, the last one was a bit tight but went on after a bit of jiggling
