Just remove the connector for the neutral switch and see if the neural light comes on, if it does short it to earth, light goes off and your light with never show neutral! If the light stays off jus leave it hanging, but by my checks I think it must be earthed?
Not too sure about the side stand but remove the cables and see how the switch is wired then short across the relevant terminals with a paper clip.
Cant see it being that hard to do?
Are you sure its not the main kill switch, I had a starting / cutting out issue and it was fur on the kill switch ( probably from rain getting in ).

If you un screw the neutal switch from the engine you probably see that the end that pushes in has worn at at an angle over time ,just carefully file it flat and it should be ok again.
