Reg no?

Hey,
Looking for a little advice please...got another 76a frame but no documents/reg no. I know the bike was on the road approx 2-3 years ago,sadly the owner is now deceased so no recourse there.......
My question is will dvla tell me the reg no and issue me a new set of documents if i apply through the normal channels or are they likely to make me re-register the bike. Worse still insist on a `q` plate.
