NC30 Jumping out of fifth gear

Hey everyone,

Have been following posts on here since I've had the NC30. Good stuff.

Well my bike is jumping out of fifth once I get high in the rev range. Yesterday it did it four times in one trackday. It engages nicely but jumps out once up around 12,000 rpm.

I did read that 6th gear is a weak one, what is the usual wear that will be causing this?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers

Hi mate welcome to the forum.
I've had a similar thing with my FZR, it can help if you use the clutch on upchanges and don't rush it, these bikes are 20 odd years old after all.
If you are lucky it might be your foot holding the gear lever slightly up, that will mean the gear selector/ drum can't engage properly.
Make sure the linkage is adjusted properly and lubed up and that it has clearance over you boot especially when your in a right hand corner as your foot will move up a bit.
It might be worth checking the detent/ selector springs behind the clutch cover as they can snap or go weak and let things move about.

If you are unlucky it will be a gearbox problem that will need a full engine out and strip!
Good luck with this.

Cool thanks a lot for the reply.

All the linkages are working nicely and I am sure to get my foot well away from the pedal after shifting, straight back to toes on the pegs, it always goes in nice but jumps out a few seconds later down the main straight.

I will check out the parts you mentioned first and then if all else fails have a look at the gearbox. I did read somewhere you can split the cases without disturbing the top end so that's good.

Any more advice will be appreciated.

Cheers
