I have a spare nc30 which I'm in two minds what to do with, I was thinking put track fairings on it and a led rear light and have it as a cheap road bike that looks like a track bike, for a day light mot is all I need is a brake light and nothing else? Or the other thing to do is break it and put the money into my other one? I don't know anything about day light mot's so any info would be great.

Pretty much boils down to 'make sure that your lights can't be mistaken for being workable'. Obviously, a track fairing will sort that right out. The brake light is the only one that's 100% needed, insofar as I'm aware, but I'm a little unsure about the requirements regarding indicators: I know that a pre-86 bike doesn't need them at all, but that's not really relevant in this case, I suppose.

I personally would advise against the use of an LED tail light, though; LEDs are highly directional, and can't be seen clearly in daylight if they're in a badly-designed enclosure. The post-2003 SVs are the only LED tail lights I can think of that actually work well.

Its all the lights or no lights at all, if you put a brake light on then its a fail if they go by the book. Having a brake light is a good idea though and my tester if fine if i tape over the brake light for the purpose of the MOT then pull it off when i leave. IIRC you need a horn

Really? I was under the impression that a brake light and a rear position light were different things.

Well this is how ive been doing it for years with the same MOT tester so no doubt each tester has their own view on the matter. In all fairness theres no such thing as a daytime MOT its just an advisory that the bike is daytime use only, the MOT cert is exactly the same.

Can't argue with that.

i run my rvf on daytime mot,the first time i took it i had a brake light and the tester made me tape over it untill i got home.
