At what point does a bike become a breaker instead of a proj

ect?

Well the vfr needs front discs, front and rear brake calipers need rebuilding, forks need replacing, the rear shock is really rusty so probably best replaced, the tyres need replacing and the fairings need repairing....alot. Then last but by no means least the radiators should probably be repaired/replaced as well as a full service with valve clearances carb clean.

At what point do you call it a day and break the bike for parts?

I hate breaking a running bike for parts, even though I've never heard it running. May be I should do that before I do any more. Or is an NC30 really worth the hassle as they are such great handling bikes?

persoanlly, id say that no running bike should be broken.
but if its becoming a problem financially then maybe its the best option...
you could maybe buy another one in better condition from the breaking funds....

Hey Katana I'm with Zimm on this one everything you've listed needs doing on my bike and at the moment I have pieces littered around the house. I don't have a garage and winter is setting in but the thought of getting it back up and running for next summer and knowing that all my hard work has gone into making it my own keeps me going!

With all the press the bike still gets after all these years it really is a good package!

Well at the moment this bike is one of many projects.

Currently have four bikes and a scooter. One needs to be cleaned thourougly cleaned and hopefully someone will buy it. The next bike needs a few scractched touched in and also cleaned up and also sold. The third needs reassembling and some silver soldering on the fuel tank and the carbs ultrasonically cleaned. Then the VFR.

The scooter and original 60's piaggio douglas sportique needs the engine reassembling or should that be find out why the engine was taken apart and reassemble.

At the moment the garage is full of the other half bikes so I can't use the garage as I can't move round the bike. She is not doing anything about the bike and it's really starting to get on my tits.

I'd say unless its of sentimental value put it on ebay for a high price and if it dont sell, break it and put the money towards something else.

NCXX's are still quite common so obtaining another won't be too much hard work, plus the money you make from breaking this one might even fund a better one (seen that in the past!!)

I'd only keep a project on the go if it was either hard to get another one (ie old classic / rare model etC) or it was of sentimental value.. first bike, yadda yadda yadda.

mate ive been askin myself the same question since i got my nc project home and in my shed. its now sitting in several boxes and i still havent answered the question??? i think it must be a combination of how much do you wanna spend and how determined you are to get it how you want it. also as zimm said when you dont care about getting it done its maybe time to pass it along. im currently trying to get my engine sorted which was running ok with no knocks or rattles but it smoked like a bugger, but lack of time has played a major part and also problems with my job also slowed the time in getting parts. my target is to hopefully have it done to do a pb 90's trackday or a 400gb one next yr.
