Hi Guys,
Just got my bike back form the workshop (RVF400) it was booked into to see why the speedo was not working.
They have said the cable is ok and the drive end is working ok so it must be the clock that is broken !!!!!
Any ideas if a fix is available or is it new clocks, if so where can they be found.
Thanks for your help.

It's usually the drive end that's the problem, the plastic drive unit can become worn which doesn't turn the cable. Part #22 in this pic:
But if you're satisfied with the workshop's verdict try sticking a wanted ad up in the site classifieds for the clock internals, should be pretty easy to come by (all the racers take them off).

I had this exact problem and it was the plastic drive to the cable.
I'd suggest unscrewing the cable from the clocks and tape it to the left fork leg so you can see the cable when riding, then take the bike for a quick ride and see if the cable turns.

Why not just spin the rear wheel. [cable will turn slowly, so touch it to see if it turns]
If the inner cable does turn, grip it see if it slips under load.
If the white nylon drive is stripped, then check that speedo gear box is free to turn, if it is partially seized it can load and strip the drive.
It is possible to force oil spray past the gearbox oil seal, I have not removed the seal in case there is no common replacement.

I had an erratic speedo a while back which too was traced to the worn nylon drive peice.. New one installed and I've never had any bother since. It's worth checking before pulling the speedo apart or paying out on a new (old) one.
