Had the stems pressed out of the yokes today to have the 400 stem pressed into the r6 yoke. Just my look the 3 en2 spindle is 10 thou too small . Any suggestions?

Chamfer both upper and lower faces of the yoke stem apperture.
Get the stem knurled.
This will increase the stem diameter sufficiently to make it a press fit and will keep it central.
Run a bead of weld in both chamfers after checking stem alignment.
Ensure weld does not interfere with yoke bearing fit.
You could also build up the stem with weld and turn it back down till a press fit was achieved.
I would still weld the base though.

I'm wondering if it might be worth while having an aluminium spindle made. The r6 spindle is Ali and I can't see it costing any more than the above

There are multiple ways to fix this problem; it depends on what engineering facilities you have access to.

When we do R1 front ends for TRXs we run a few beads of weld around the stem and turn it down to the right size. You can knurl it instead if the difference in size is small enough. All FZR stems should be the same but some are more equal than others!
Bill, the R6 yoke is ally so can't be welded to the (steel) FZR stem.

Is that a job you could do for Stretch (or anybody else) if he sends you his bits ???
Ha ha ... I said his bits

Evil, have you fitted that black alloy bottom triple to your black bike yet?? Nice bit of kit.
Trying to see if I can get an FZR1000RU or YZF750 wheel to fit in R1 4XV forks to get a speedo back. They all have the same bearings apparently....

Not yet - I've restarted the 660 engine though so I'm going to push that forward a bit first.
I think I need to write out the spec for the project, that way I can do the jobs and tick them off as I go.

You can use a YZF750 wheel in 4XV forks but you need to machine 8mm off the inside of the left fork bottom to fit the speedo drive in.

I was hoping to not have to do the machining bit with the YZF wheel, thanks for the heads up. I already have a Thunderace wheel here so will just go ahead with that then - the same work is needed but the discs from the R1 wheel will fit.
Kayla how much would you charge to do the milling work required? I would source an R1 lower stanchion and send it up.
