Relay clicks but starter does not kick over

Hi all,

Putting back together a race NC30 after a fair strip down following a track bingle. Yesterday was the big "start the engine" day.

However, the starter does not even kick over. The relay clicks healthily. The earth connections seem good and the engine is earthed.

The battery is fine. I have even tried it with a charged battery jump start pack with the same result.

I have used the same battery back to connect -ve to the engine and +ve to the starter motor cable attach point on the start motor itself and it did not turn over or even 'hum'. I sort of expected it to do something ....

It was working fine before I binned the bike but it (and I) did take a fair old thump ... so anything could have happened.

Any ideas?

All help appreciated.

I'm guessing the engine is turning over by hand ok? If you put a meter on the output of the soleniod are you getting 12v?
Cheers

Hydraulic lock? (bore(s) full of fuel oil will jam an engien good)

take the plugs out.. take the timing cover off and turn it over by hand with a socket on the timing disc first... if you try and start a hydrulic lock motor you can bend a rod or worse.

could always be something more simple, but best to err on the side caution with stuck motor.

Thanks all, and sorry for the late reply. Was in the garage all yesterday.

Yes, engine turns over by hand.

So ... I got the starter motor out and pulled it apart and the wire from the external +ve bolt to whatever it is that it connect to inside had broken. Looks like while trying to get it off the bolt twisted too far and snapped the wire on the inside.

So ... getting a replcement today. :-)

Thanks
