hey guys,

Removing camshaft holder bolts in correct order as per the manual... removed the camshafts and then started removing the shims and storing them. Dropped one of the shims into the cylinder head ... fuck!

Started removing the cylinder head bolts and only after did i realise i did not remove the bolts in correct order

Now the head is stuck aswell! ideas to remove? the engine is still in the frame so its hard to mallet the joints

massive fuck up, did i ruin the mating surface? would the shim be in the engine block or will i be able to find it if i remove the cylinder head

thanks

I dropped a shim into the engine, I took the sump off and fished it out that way.

Did it drop all the way past the cam gear towers then? If so, then you aren't going to end up with any more access by removing the heads. If it is still in the head, then removing them won't do much good either!

As beermonster says, you're better of trying to retrieve it from underneath. Drain the oil and if you're lucky it might come out. Failing that, remove the sump.

If you need the cylinder head off, don't forget the small bolt inside of the "V", above the watter pipe. It's there to hold the cam gear unit, and needs to be removed in order to get the head off...don't ask me how I come to think of this..!
