Hi,

I need to replace the generator on my 86 nc21.

Someone said once that I could use a gsxr one which would give a small hp increase due tp the lighter weight. Is this true and if so which generator is it? Or should I just replace with like for like?

Any help or advice would be greatly appriciated .

Easy answer - get another NC21/24 generator. Are you sure it is dead?

GSXR genny - £300+..so not worth it I guess?

Pretty sure it's the genny. Been working backwards from the battery, replaced battery then regulator.

Should have just done some checks first . I'm getting 12-12.5 at the battery and doesn't increase @ 5000rmp.

I also have another problem- not sure if it's related, I think it may be a fuel problem: after running for a few miles bike will misfire then die (red oil pressure light does not come on like when you stall- have to turn key off and back on). Then bike will not start for about 10 min. Any ideas ? Bike has been ran low on fuel for a long time and also ran out. Don't know if this would be a cause of the problem if it is fuel?

If the charging system is similar to the nc30 then measure the voltage between the wires of the generator at 5k and if it's low (I think spec is around 30v AC) then replace the wires, measure again and replace gen if needed.

the genny connects to the reg rec by small 3 pin plug, it is ok.
with a mulitmeter disconnect this plug and check the voltage with engine running at 5000rpm.


call the 3 yellow wires a b and c (doesnt matter whcich one is whcih as long as you remember what youncall them)

measure volts on AC meter setting between

a and b
b and c
a and c.

nc21 has two types of genny so you need to emove and measure before ordering a one if its faulty
