Hi guy's few weeks ago I posted on here about a rectifier, battery coil issue.
I've installed a new cdi, battery, coil and rectifier. All is working well apart from the Rev counter which
Is dead. I've got a new working one but no luck. I've checked earth's and connections but it just won't work.
Could my 2nd hand cdi be the problem?

I doubt it's the cdi if 2 of them haven't got 2 different tachos to work.

More likely just a wiring issue.

I'll have a look at mine over the weekend if you want specifics.

Cammo, I do not think its 2 "CDIs" and 2 tachos, I believe Wambam87 replaced the original "CDI" because it failed after the rect/reg went overvoltage. The repalcement could possibly have a tacho output signal fault, if there is no wiring problem. He really needs a known fully functioning ignition control unit

Start the bike and use a multimeter to check that power is getting to the tacho (brown/black wire, should be 12v plus), you could also check to see if power's getting to the yellow/green signal wire (not sure of the reading, any sign of power is probably a good thing).

Your over charging issue could have taken wiring out potentially, could be quite difficult to get to the bottom of this issue unless you check the continuity of the wiring loom and components.

Cheers for the replys , am now doing a continuety + voltage check , however i noticed last night whilst having a prod , the back lights on my fuel gauge arnt working , as theres a shared live going through most of the clocks at the front could this be an issue?

Instrument back lights are on the different power circuit to tacho. There is more than one power circuit to the instruments. You might also find that the back light bulbs are blown due to over-voltage, you should check the headlight bulbs too. Does the temp gauge work?

Yeah the temp guage works, the bulb had blown on the back light. I'm not getting anything down the brown and black wire to the Rev counter, i am getting a tiny voltage from the green and yellow one tho. Dose anyone know of the order of components the brown black wire goes to? As I've looked at the wiring diagram and seen that the brown /black wire goes to the rear brake switch and im getting just over 13 volts there.

Temp gauge uses same power as tacho, if temp gauge works it must have power and thus tacho should too.

How many volts should i see at the temp guage?
