Splitting crankcases FZR 3TJ

Im preparing to split the cases on a 3TJ motor to replace the cam chain guide and have had a read through the manual to familiarise myself with the task and get together any special tools needed and was thinking is it possible to lift the top crankcase off with the clutch and starter clutch in situ?

If not do i really need a slide hammer to remove the clutch? i cant find an M6 one anywhere. And a sheave holder tool is mentioned to remove the starter clutch, can i just use a 24mm spanner on the flats of the BDK rotor to hold the crank whilst i undo the starter clutch bolt?

I used the fzr 600 manual and followed that.
You need everything, off the engine though. A clutch holding toola big breaker bar and a rubber mallet to release the two half's.

Or a soft link camchain

Ok so no cutting corners then. Clutch tool, big breaker bar and rubber mallet i have, do i need the M6 slide hammer to remove the clutch spacer or is there another way?

I think that there are some crankcase bolts behind the clutch, so it's got to come off.

When I was stripping a scrap engine down, just to see how it all fitted together, I only needed a rattle gun for the clutch nut, no other special tools. A breaker bar will probably do just as well.

Did you need to somehow stop the crank from turning when using a rattle gun?

I just held the clutch basket, so the clutch holding tool should do.

At least you have the right tool, I bodged something together using old plates and a nail...

The clutch holding tool is useful for a lot of bits but that and breaker bar are the only sticking point

A rattle gun will zip through all the bolts holding the cases together. You need the head and barrels off for the two bolts down by the cam chain run and to get the rear chain tensioner out (it's attached to the top case). You flip the engine over then lift the bottom case off the top one.
