Rear brakes sticking.

Hi all,
Ive got a '93 cb400 sf with original rear brake set up and it is in regular use almost everyday. I undid the rear footpeg hanger to swap with another one, realised before taking it off exhaust it wouldnt fit so did the old one back up. The mastercylinder etc was never taken off the hanger and in total only moved about 1 cm and now the rear brake sticks on. Never had any issue with it since getting bike over a year ago. You can ease the pads apart with just fingers pushing them apart but locks on if you apply the brakes. Everything looks as it should, springs pipes etc but cant work this one out. Anyone with any ideas please as on holiday and supposed to be riding all weekend. Thanks.

It wouldn't be an adjustment issue with the master? How badly is it sticking?

I know the rear brakes on my bike after I fitted the new brakes and pads make a little contact, enough to make a slight whooshing noise when I move it. Even my fronts do it. It may just be the pads being seated against the disc but not being held there, just enough so to make noise.

To me its just normal if its just a little noise. Even the brakes on my car do it.

Hey there,

I've had much the same issue. My rear disk got to such temperatures that it would burn your fingers if you touched it. And yet, when you put it up on the centrestand, the rear wheel spins freely. Sometimes there was the odd rub over a small arc, but that went away if you pushed the pads apart with a little finger force.

The problem stopped when I made the conscious effort to not use my rear brake as much, so maybe try that? Sorry it's not particularly helpful, but it seems to have done the trick for me. Just change down a little earlier and work with the engine.

Have you checked the brake lever pivot?
Mine was barely moving so I stripped it and cleaned/filed it smooth and re-greased it, and problem gone..
Also check the return springs, if there slightly caught it will stick on...
