40 mile (each way) commute to work, took the NC30, have done a few times now.

Bike was a bit hot this morning when I was in slow moving traffic (30mph), had to stop at one point and dramatically approached the dreaded red zone. Luckily managed to blast through traffic quickly to keep temp about 95.

Ride back. Barely any traffic (oddly) and was sat at 90mph for the last 15 miles up the M40. Tiny bit of traffic in Banbury but bike was so hot from stopping at a traffic light for 30 seconds I had to do a bit of risky filtering just to get home with a bike not made of melted plastic.

Which is the kind of position it got to when sat at lights or in slow moving (>20mph) traffic.

I use the overflow bottle as you can see from the vids, there seems to be a very slight rad cap leak. My only other thoughts are that the cable tie holding the overflow to the coolant pipe is too tight, but I'm pretty sure it's fine. Also, I never hear the fan. Does the fan carry on after you turn the engine off? Should it?

I wish my bike loved me as much as I love it! At this rate I'm going to be saving for a CBR600RR and the NC30 will become track slag.

Yes the fan should run aslong as the ignition is on, check the fuse for the fan under the seat, 10A iirc probably find its blown, could the back feed of coolant be the rad cap not sealing properly? Also once the fuse for fan is ok, check it by removing the cable off of the thermoswitch on the bottom rad, place it on a decent earth and the fan should kick in.

How old is the rad cap? Might not be sealing properly like mentioned above. The spring thing in it might be knackered too, not pressurising the system enough.

This hot weather doesn't help but that was boiling over like mad!

Start with the obvious.

Does your fan work? and are all the blades intact / radiator not shitted up. Even a working fan wont be able to pull air through a shitted up radiator.

That should stop it overheating in traffic.

As above, take the single wire off the fan switch and stick it to earth with the ignition on (dont need the bike running its easier to hear) and see if the fan spins.

This is a good sign, if the fan doesnt kick in when the bikes hot though the fan switch on the rad might be duff.

Shine a torch throguh the rad and see if you can see the light, if its full of mud and shit and has too many bent fins you can soak it in a hot bath of detergent and lightly wash it with a hose pipe, not pressure washer to clean it up, a fin comb and an hour or so will see it looking good.

In addition to the earthing, if it does work earthing on a good point like frame or engine, it should also work earthing on the rad, after all, thats where it has to go through when the switch trips in. If it doesn't, try it on the lower rad mounting bracket, it nothing there you'll need to clean up all the mounts till you get a good eartg right from the radiator.

Yep, you need to earth it to the (lower) rad to properly check the fan circuit

If you have a rad cap that does not seal properly (hence leak?) then you can expect that the system will carry on pissing itself as there is not enough pressure in the system.

Get a new cap dude..

Your bike does love you...a CBR6 might be "faster" but my Dog, they are not as involving. I have recently become re-addicted* to my NC - the MIlle is being sold, though it is a bloody fast and well handling beast and I also have got lazy with 130bhp of 5 gears on the Thunderace. The ragging, high revs, sharp steering and teeny size of the NC does not have an equal.
