Another dumb noob question.

How do I know how much fuel I have in the tank?

Do have to reset the odometer each time I fill up my RVF400?

You don't have to do anything other than switch to reserve when needed and find a petrol station asap.

Some people use their tripmeter to gauge when to fill up, I just take a quick look in the tank every couple of days

I knew the answer would involve an amount of common sense

My bike tends to cough and splutter when it needs to go onto reserve so for me thats just a sign to reach down and switch it to reserve

I just re-set the trip every fill up, when near 100 miles time to start looking for a garage

Reset the trip-o-meter (dunno what it's called) when it starts misfiring, switch to reserve and start looking for a pump. This way when you fill up next time you can calculate your fuel consumption by looking at the trip-o and dividing the amount of gas you bought with the miles/kms.

When I get a new bike I always run it until I need to turn to reserve on the first full tank. Remember the mileage. Reset the trip meter every time you fill up. I even do it on my car, and that has a reliable fuel gauge. It's good to know roughly how much further you can go before desperation sets in <g>.

As said, reset trip counter to 0, ride it until it stops. Remember that number - my NC30 is roughly 180. Then you can add 20 or so for reserve. This is KM's btw.

Just remember to swith your tap back to on after refill or next time when it splutters you'll be proper empty ; )
