Just did a pre check of the nc30 before the mot and there's a wobble coming from the rear swing arm or maybe the suspension ! If you pull the wheel up and down there's a slight bit of play but can't work out where it's is coming from
! Can any one help ? Or has any ideas ? Thanks

My guess would be that a hub bearing is shot. Could be a number of other things though.

It feels like its coming for where swingarm joins the frame of the top of the rear shock ! But the play is only up and down

Might as well have a run through of the bolts on the shock and linkages and take them out, clean it up and regrease, refit as required.

Hard to guess without actually having a fidle and moving stuff around, but if it only feels 'loose' up and down it would (IMHO) suggest it is more likely to be the upper shock mounting bush or possibly something worn within the linkage. I only say that as in my early morning head, it would be loose fwd/rear as well if it was the swingarm pivot that was worn....but I have only had half a cup of coffe so far, so I may be way off.

More time than expense to strip it out and replace (http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-vfr400r3-199 ... ml#results)

Well I only had it leaning over on the stand pulling the wheel up
And down as it was only a quick cheek but the wobble was 90% coming from where the swingarm mounts or the suspension , if it is the bearings or the bushes round there is its expensive job for the parts ?

You need to get it off the ground, wheel off and be able to pinpoint exactly where it is.

If you can feel it and it concerns you for MOT - then it is not a figment of your imagination..so needs sorting.

They are simple things..just be methodical and try to isolate the causes.

e.g - get it on axle stands, get the wheel off the ground and determine whether it is at hub end or not,

take the wheel off and see whether you can see or feel the triangle knuckle or dogbone moving (assistant required)

then try the shock mounts.

if you cannot place that, take the shock out, the linkages out and you can then isolate the swingarm and frame - test that.

Its not just play in the shock itself it is?

To be honest i don't think I have ever seen an MOT tester actually lift the back end of the bike and check for play during an MOT. Fingers crossed for the MOT but even if it gets through it would still be worth pulling the back end through and getting it right for your own peace of mind and safety.
